Summary:

Le Fleur is the debut book in the Plant Life series, introducing Gerta and Strawberry Cat to the world. It was written, designed, and produced by Michael J. Nelson under the pen name Benny Whaler.

Project Goals:

  • Create the first full length comic book for an ongoing series.

  • The characters should be visually appealing, unique, and well written.

  • It should be comprised of two short stories, activity pages, and art pages.

  • An equal importance should be given to the writing and visuals.

Basic Info:

  • Began in mid-2017, completed and printed in July 2018

  • 24 pages. Contains two stories, “Le Fleur” and “Starberry Bush”

  • Contains interactive activity pages.

  • Original Art: 10 in. X 15 in. Ink on Bristol board.

  • Finished Book: Printed at 6.5 in. X 10.25 in. with saddle stitching (100 books).
